TWO youngsters were all smiles as they switched on their own Christmas lights in Scarborough town centre.
Eight-year-old Reece Waller, and six-year-old George Hodgson both said they were very excited to see their designs sparkling.
The two boys' festive pictures were selected and made into lights after they won this year's design a light competition, organised by the Evening News and Scarborough Town Centre Management.
Malcolm Hall, Town Centre manager, said: "The two winning entries were brilliant, and we had some wonderful runners up too.
"It is a great way to see the children's creativity and for them to play an active part in Scarborough's Christmas celebrations."
Scarborough mayor Eileen Vickers, and Evening News editor Ed Asquith joined the boys for the switch on.
Cllr Vickers said: "The two lights are fantastic. It is great to get the children involved in this.
"It is wonderful to watch their faces when they switch the lights on, and really nice that they can show all their family and friends their designs."
Reece, who goes to Barrowcliff Junior School, switched on his snowman bauble in Vernon Road.
He said: "The light looks really good. I have been looking forward to switching it on all week. I can see a lot of my friends from school here, and I'm proud to show them my light."
Shortly after Reece's switch on the crowd followed George to Bar Street where he switched on his musical angel light.
George also saw a lot of his friends from Newby and Scalby Primary School. He said: "The light looks brilliant."
After the switch on the 24 runners up, who were selected from 250 entries, were invited to the Town Centre Management office where they were presented with prizes and certificates.
Mr Asquith said: "I'd like to say a big thank you the Town Centre Management team, and Malcolm Hall in particular, for all their help in organising the competition.
"Congratulations to the winner and the runners up, and thank you to the 250 children who entered this year's competition."
