Children from Newby and Scalby School helped colour their community by planting out the area around one of the place name signs by the bridge on Scalby Road.
The school has a “growing partnership” with the Newby and Scalby In Bloom Group which has involved the two organisations co-operating in planting and competitions. Next spring the bloom volunteers also plan to help the children develop their own vegetable allotment.

“We have a grounds development scheme in school.

“Amongst other things these sort of projects help the children experience working in the community,” said Newby and Scalby headteacher Chris Knowles.

Scarborough Council’s parks department and the in bloom group will plant out three other place signs in the area with flowers and bulbs.
