Seven-year-old Shannon Leighton, of Raleigh Street, and Ben Standaloft, of Caledonia Street, also seven, will ride in the sleigh with Santa a week on Sunday.
A parade led by reindeer will start at Queen Street at 1pm.
Organiser, Town Centre Man
ager, Malcolm Hall, said: “It will travel up the town to Alma Square. Once there the reindeers will be unharnessed and people can look at the deer and ask the handlers questions.”
The parade, which will be followed by local bands and entertainment, will form the finale of this year’s Winter Wonderland Weekend.
On Saturday December 6 there will also be entertainment in the town centre and a snow machine.
The Winter Wonderland Weekend is just one of the many events Scarborough’s Town Centre Management organise on an annual basis in the run up to Christmas.
Already the town has seen a glittering Christmas light switch-on ceremony led by this year’s Christmas Princess and Scarborough’s Mayor, Eileen Vickers.
This weekend, the winners of the Design-a-Light contest see their creations lit up for Christmas, and on December 21 the Nativity Parade will be led through Scarborough's town centre.
The three Kings on their camels will parade from Queen Street from 1pm. It will proceed through Newborough and Westborough to the Live Nativity outside Woolworths where Mary and Joseph and the baby Jesus together with shepherds and donkeys will greet them.
This is followed with carols by the Hunmanby Silver Band and free mince pies.
Fortunately, this year Scarborough is able to invite both camels and reindeer to its Christmas celebrations. There were fears the animals would not be able to come because of the risk of the spread of blue tongue.
Now the boundaries that tried to curb disease have been moved, so Scarborough is able to have the traditional festive animals for its events.
