SCHOOLCHILDREN munched their way through a mountain of Yorkshire puddings to raise money for a good cause.
Youngsters from Sherburn Primary School competed to see who could eat the most puddings in two minutes in aid of Children in Need.
Eight children aged between four and 11 took part and the winner, eight-year-old Sam Daplyn, managed an impressive seven puddings.
He said: "It was really good. I didn't think I'd eat that many. I like Yorkshire puddings but my favourite food is pizza!"
Also taking part was 10-year-old Kiera Dobson, who ate five and a half puddings. She said: "I really enjoyed it – I love Yorkshire puddings."
The whole school – which has just 38 pupils – gathered in the hall to cheer on their classmates and three members of staff even had a go themselves.
Headteacher Carol Barnes managed four puddings but she was beaten by class two teacher Anne Pratt with 10 and IT technician Leon Dale who tucked into 10 and a half.
Mrs Barnes said: "The children have been absolutely fantastic in organising events for Children in Need. The school council planned an autumn fair where pupils manned the stalls.
"We came up with the idea for this contest because puds links into Pudsey bear and we're in Yorkshire!"
She added that they were very grateful to Sainsbury's in Scarborough for donating 200 Yorkshire puddings for the competition.
The events raised a total of just under £200. Mrs Barnes said: "We are delighted – it's a great amount to raise for such a small school."
